Griot

There are both pros and cons when it comes to learning history through the methods of the griot but in my opinion the cons over weigh the pros.  The cons include the fact that you are being given biased and opinionated information because it is being passed down orally so information can be changed or misconstrued.  Also this narrows the span of history being given so you can not be given a wide variety of information.  The pros include that you get a more personal view on what was going on in history at that time.  You get the point of view of someone and not just the facts which can be a good thing sometimes.  Also even though information might not have been passed accurately all the time it was being passed quickly compared to written down information.
In my opinion I prefer learning history through the textbook method which we use rather than learning through storytelling, music, and dance.  For me that is not how I would enjoy learning because I would never be able to accept what I am learning because I will not know if it is 100% true or not.  I prefer learning from the facts regardless if it is lacking emotion or point of view.
